IYAC Mission Statement

IYAC/ACYI is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and governing the work of Sri B.K.S. Iyengar in Canada. Active since 1988 and incorporated in 2000. IYAC/AYCI mentors and certifies Iyengar Yoga teachers following the guidelines set by RIMYI.

Our mission is to promote Iyengar Yoga by fostering a vibrant community of practitioners and teachers, to expand access to this transformative practice through education, mentorship, on-line media, and in-person community and nation-wide events.

IYAC Vision Statement

Iyengar yoga goes beyond the mat and is rooted in a philosophy for mindful living, through the eight limbs of yoga. Our aim is to cultivate a diverse Canadian community where Iyengar yoga is introduced and recognized for its precision, alignment, and therapeutic benefits, fostering well-being.

Who is IYAC/ACYI?
IYAC/ACYI as the governing body for Iyengar Yoga in Canada, we set the requirements and standards for teacher training and we certify teachers through annual assessments held in various parts of the country. Click on Events for a current listing of teacher training workshops and assessments.
We host a variety of events including workshops and national conferences such as the ones which brought Abhijata Iyengar to Monreal in April 2025, Geeta Iyengar to Vancouver, B.C. in May, 2001 and to Penticton, B.C.in May 2008. In 2026, read more about our upcoming National Forum at Forum 2026.
IYAC/ACYI is the Canadian liaison with the Iyengar family and supports studies by Canadian practitioners at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India.
IYAC/ACYI upholds a rigorous Code of Ethics for its teachers and has a professional system for dealing with complaints and appeals.
