Iyengar Yoga Appreciation Day… in Ottawa ON

IYENGAR YOGA APPRECIATION DAY!

Ottawa ON

Barbara Young of Pathway Yoga in Ottawa ON tells us about how her community marked this day –

About 25 students and teachers celebrated Iyengar Yoga Appreciation Day on April 13th 2024.  We practised quietly under Karin Holtkamp’s calm guidance, shared delicious food, and watched Iyengar: The Man, Yoga and the Student’s Journey.

It seems that as the pandemic’s effects have faded for most of us, students now yearn to gather in community once again. Many expressed their delight at being together in yoga, and were awestruck to learn more about Guruji and his teachings. Here is how one participant put it:

“I learned a lot from the movie. Using yoga to help with grief and trauma: alcoholics, inmates and small children who never had access to standard social interactions; how B.K.S. Iyengar and his family taught; the outward expression of care for those vulnerable individuals! It was absolutely heartwarming. I have to admit I cried a couple of tears. I really hope we have more community events. There were people I’ve never talked to in class, that I finally connected with last night.” AW

Barbara offers these additional thoughts:

Thanks to IYAC/ACYI for supporting us. Many students in Ottawa and across Canada now know more about the many free online events offered by IYAC/ACYI, and have become members so they can register for Abhijata’s in-person intensive next May!
