Distinguished Member Award – Lauren Cox
The Distinguished Member Award is awarded annually to a member of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Canada/Association canadienne de Yoga Iyengar under the following criteria:
- a member of IYAC/ACYI who is 70 (minimum), who
- has made significant contributions to IYAC/ACYI through the development and evolution of the association, and
- has spread Iyengar yoga in their respective communities.
In recognition of their contributions, the member receives a one-year waiver of membership dues for IYAC/ACYI, certification mark fees and Annual General Meeting fees.
For 2021, the recipient of the Distinguished Member Award is Lauren Cox, of Victoria BC.
Lauren has been a student of Iyengar Yoga since the early 1980s and has been teaching since 1989, in Victoria BC, and internationally. She continues to study with Shirley Daventry French and visiting senior teachers. Lauren has travelled to study with the Iyengars in Pune as well as in North America. Lauren continues to learn, gather insight and deepen her understanding of the work. It is a privilege! She loves how yoga takes her out of her comfort zone.
Lauren was nominated for this award by Ty Chandler, also of Victoria BC.
Upon learning of this award, Lauren wrote the following letter:
