Being on the inside in Pune

Carole Carpentier, the editor of the Journal, IYAC/ACYI’s online newsletter, is currently at the Institute in Pune…
Along with many students around the world, I have been doing Abhijata’s Tuesday night class as an online student ever since it was first offered. Initially, because the Institute was closed due to COVID restrictions, this was an online class only, with the camera either on Abhi or on a student demonstrating at home.

Later, when the Institute reopened, the class transitioned to a hybrid format, with students both online and in the yoga hall. While the camera is often on Abhi as she teaches, she tends to wander amongst the students, so there are frequent views of the yoga hall. With a little imagination, one could almost feel like one of the students there in the yoga hall.
Yesterday, I arrived in Pune ahead of the January program at the Institute. And since it was Tuesday, I thought, “Why not be on the inside looking out rather than on the outside looking in?” So, why not actually be in the yoga hall rather than simply imagining I’m there! The RIMYI office said, “Sure. Go ahead.” And so I did.

It was a great class, though it being the end of the month, I hadn’t really expected backbends!
Tomorrow we launch into a new year and into a month of yoga at the Institute, studying at the Source.
Carole Carpentier is a student in Toronto. This is her sixth visit to the Institute.
